11th pavilion of the Expo Georgia Exhibition Center on Tsereteli Avenue will be the venue for the Tbilisi 13th International Book Festival, which will bring together both literature fans and publishing insiders on May 26-29.
The Book Exhibition’s fair will serve as the base of the Festival, in which, together with local publishers, publishing houses of Azerbaijan, Turkey, Moldova, Russia, Armenia and Ukraine will take part. Representatives of other foreign countries’ cultural organizations are also expected to participate in the event.
In sum, literature lovers will be given an opportunity to browse more than sixty Georgian and foreign publishing houses’ products.
The event dates back to 1997, when it was held for the first time and quickly became one of the most favored events nationwide. It was initiated and organized by the Georgian Book Publishers and Distributors Association and is supported by the Ministry of Culture and Monument Protection and Tbilisi Municipality.
According to Nino Goginashvili, the Association’s executive director, visitors will have the possibility to learn about modern authors and trends as well as innovations in the publishing industry.
“This year, together with Georgian publishing companies, many foreign organizations like the Polish Books Art Museum, a Greek online book publisher, the Iranian Embassy, the Goethe Institute and other organizations will be participating, so our guests will have the chance to purchase books in foreign languages too,” she told Georgia Today.
For the first time this year, the Festival will not be limited to just the presenting and selling of books: various exhibitions, fora and master classes will be organized in order to keep the festival’s mood high.
In addition, on the agenda is to hold a forum-dialogue between publishers, writers and translators, which will last two days - from May 24 to May 25, at the Ministry of Culture and Monument Protection.
According to Goginashvili, the event’s duration has been prolonged as many local organizations, institutions, schools and foreign countries’ executives have expressed their wish to have enough time to participate in the event.
All the events which are planned for the 13th Tbilisi International Book Festival will be completed on May 30.
