Svaneti Trekking and Svaneti Mountaineering Tourism Center

The non governmental organization Svaneti Mountaineering Tourism Center (SMTC) for the time being unites six communities in Zemo Svaneti (Becho, Mestia, Mulakhi, Ipari, Kala, Ushguli). Those are the communities, who are willing to take active part in developing mountaineering tourism in Svaneti. The members of SMTC are ready to host tourists, provide them motor-transport services, or a guide for horseback or on-foot tours; and if necessary - first medical aid.

In Svaneti you can avail yourself of services of local experienced alpinists.

The main occupation of the population in Zemo Svaneti is farming (corn, potato crops) and cattle-breeding. In Becho community they also keep bee-hives. Cattle-breeding has a leading role in highland villages. So, those tourists fond of farming can have first hand experience of natural economy characteristic of Svaneti.
